Schnuer takes up Bataille’s notion of pleasure-as-excess to contribute an inquisitive rather than disciplinary mode of analytical discursive engagement. Surpassing what may otherwise be a crude dichotomous attempt to negate the methodological issue, Schnuer’s examination is subtle and academically adept, presenting a fantastic case for applying the mid-century philosopher’s metaphysics to a pertinent hermeneutical task. Worth reading for stigma-eradication.
